Protection Upgrades for Medical Rescuers.
Over the past year the COVID-19 epidemic has spread all over the world, and all of the countries around the world have raised epidemic prevention standards to prevent the virus from spreading. BAILIDA, a medical brand owned by Machan International, with the intent of showing empathy for the others, has successively developed "Mobile Inspection Screen" and "Endotracheal Intubation Barrier" last year with the help from Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital and of clinical experience of many healthcare professionals in the industry. These new products significantly improve the infection risk and psychological pressure of healthcare professionals during inspection processes and intubation treatments—an effective barrier to prevent infectious diseases.
Protection Upgrades for Medical Rescuers
Over the past 50 years in Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, most of the patients in the emergency room are unforeseen and may even deteriorate to critical illness at any time, e.g., traffic accidents, strokes, dystocia, preterm births. Healthcare professionals often face life-and-death situations and are unable to fully take into account the risk of infection under these circumstances. Zhiwei Wei, director of Emergency Department of Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, once shared a past experience with Brian Chang, president of Machan. A pregnant woman was sent to the emergency room in a car accident. The medical team decided to immediately perform caesarean delivery in the emergency room in order to save two lives. Fortunately, the mother and son were safe after the operation. However, the facilities and sanitary conditions of the emergency room are of inferior quality compared to the operating room, especially the conventional isolation curtains are not easy to clean, if blood or body fluids are splashed on it, it will easily become a breeding ground for germs and viruses.
Upon hearing about the incident, Brian Chang, president of Machan, led the BAILIDA R&D team to upgrade the antibacterial ability of the "Folding Screen". The main feature is easy cleaning and sterilization with the aim to prevent the adhesion and proliferation of germs. In order to achieve this mission, Machan has integrated a number of innovative technologies, such as UVC sterilization light and silver ion antibacterial coating technology, and has also adopted the health sub-system platform and smart light source tracking system with patient identification function which was promoted by Industrial Development Bureau. Through the counseling program of industrial upgrading and innovation platform by the Industrial Development Bureau, a new "Smart Mobile Inspection Screen" was successfully developed to protect healthcare professionals and to reduce the risk of cross-infection with patients—building a more complete protective barrier in hospitals. Moreover, President Chang took the initiative to propose the transformation of the emergency room of Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, the use of hard folding screens in place of the traditional cloth curtains, and the improvement of emergency room facilities to enhance infection control capabilities. The next step is to use folding screens in the intensive care unit (ICU) which takes into account of infection control and patient privacy.
Zhiwei Wei, director of Emergency Department of Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, said that the emergency room encounters patients with accidents or acute illnesses. When saving lives is the top priority, healthcare professions often cannot fully take care of the surrounding conditions because they are concerned about the patients. Especially in the cases of emergency treatments or when the patients are uncomfortable, the blood or body fluids of patients would splash and contaminate the surroundings. Since the replacement and cleaning of the curtains takes time and labor, therefore the solid folding screens were developed by BAILIDA which could be wiped down or disinfected directly that effectively reduces the risk of infection and implements epidemic prevention.
Minzhe Tung, president of Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital, pointed out that he is very grateful that Brian Chang, president of Machan, lead the BAILID R&D team to invest in the research and development of solid folding screens and smart mobile inspection screens, and continues to endeavor in order to reduce the risk of infection of healthcare professionals. In the future, we may face the emergence of various new viruses or germs. How to continuously improve the best medical protection and minimize the risk of harm is the reform and challenge the medical industry must face. Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital strives to improve medical quality services, not only introduces the latest equipment, but also continues to upgrade the hardwar
